Keep the Animals away!

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Rabbits, deer and other sweet animals are not as sweet when they eat your Strawberries or Tomatoes.  Try putting some Cayenne Pepper with water into a spray bottle and spray around your garden.   This even works for your flowers, especially if you see the flowers suddenly missing from the stems.  It is most likely the sweet-but not so sweet- animals.  Try it…they “won’t” like it!

Chiropractic Gardening Tips

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

If you’ve been reading Mimi’s Organic Gardening Blog and are ready to start planting your own backyard garden, here’s a few tips to help ensure a healthy and pain free gardening and keep a healthy back

  • Take it slow. Don’t try to dig up your backyard in one afternoon, especially in this humid Houston heat.  Even if you think you are in good shape, slightly different muscle activity can still make you sore. This can be especially true when doing a lot of planting and clean up both at the beginning of the season and in the fall. Remember, general muscle soreness from activity usually gets much better within 2 days. Pain lasting longer with the same intensity or feels worse should be looked at by a health professional to rule out injury.
  • Eat well and stay hydrated. A well balanced diet can go a long way to providing the needed energy for activity and allow for healthy weight loss as a bonus. Be sure to take in plenty of fluids after any activity, especially when outdoors.

Headaches and Chiropractic Care

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Nine out of 10 Americans suffer headaches from mild to severe.  According to an article from the American Chiropractic Association:

Research shows that spinal manipulation – the primary form of care provided by doctors of chiropractic – may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.”

Migraines, tension/stress and cluster headaches are the most common types of headaches. Studies have shown that these types of headaches respond particularly well to chiropractic care.  Chiropractic care is about treating the cause, not the symptom.  More and more people who suffer from headaches are seeking chiropractic care rather than reaching for pain killers..

If you suffer from headaches, discuss your symptoms with Dr. Smedstad about a chiropractic care regamine to  to relieve the stress on your neck and nervous systems.

Getting in Shape for the Summer

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Having your spine properly aligned before starting an exercise routine is one of the healthiest safeguards to reducing sprains, strains and wear and tear on your body’s joints. When your spine is out of alignment, your body moves in an unnatural way and can quickly cause pain in the joints, nerves, tendons and bones. Also, your chiropractic can quickly assess your body’s flexibility and suggest exercises and/or theraphies to get your body in shape quickly.

Arthritis and Chiropractic

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

You’ve heard the expression:  “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”  This is never more true than with arthritis.

Arthritis is defined as a joint inflammation caused by a breakdown of cartilage.  Regular spinal adjustments can reduce the wear and tear that cause joints to break down over time.  The body was made to last but today’s lifestyles … sitting for hours in front of a computer, stressing out in traffic, carrying a heavy handbag or computer case all day, etc. can quickly get out entire body out of alignment causing distressing our nervous system and putting pressure on our joints.

If you already suffer from arthritis, chiropractic care has often been successful in reducing or altogether alleviating the pain.

Also, ask Dr. Smedstad about  recommended supplements for arthritis.
